Educational Grant for Seafarers
The Welfare Committee has reviewed its educational grant schemes (School fees) for seafarer to upgrade their certificate since 1st July 2023.
The educational scheme is meant for active seafarers who wish to pursue their careers in the Maritime Sector. And also, to enhance the employability of Mauritian seafarers.
The Seafarers’ Welfare Fund is proposing to sponsor courses at the Mauritius Maritime Training Academy and other maritime training institutions as per the following:
- Sponsorship of 50% of the course fees for the courses mentioned below. (Payable to the institution)
i. Training for Rating Forming Part of a Navigational,
ii. Refresher Training for Rating Forming Part of a Navigational,
iii. Training for Ratings Forming Part of an Engineering Watch,
iv. Refresher Training for Ratings Forming Part of an Engineering Watch
v. Pre-Sea Training Course for General Purpose (GP) Ratings,
vi. Refresher and Updating Course for Basic Safety Training,
vii. Able Seafarer (Deck),
viii. Able Seafarer (Engine),
ix. Basic Training Course for Oil Tanker Cargo Operations, and,
x. Bridging course for Existing Electrical Officers to Electro- Technical Officers. - Sponsorship of 15% of the course fees for the courses mentioned below. (payable to the institution)
i. Training for Skipper for Certificate of Competency for fishing vessels of 24 meters in length and over,
ii. Training for Certificate of Competency foe Second Hand for fishing vessels of 24 meters in length and over,
iii. Training for Certificate of Competency for Chief Engineer for fishing vessels of 1500KW, and,
iv. Training for Second Engineer for Certificate of Competency for fishing vessels of 1500KW.
- Sponsorship of 50% of the course fees for the courses mentioned below. (Payable to the institution)
